Men’s Performance: What Actually Helps
Sleep, resistance training and body fat do more for male energy, strength and libido than any supplement. A week of short nights measurably lowers testosterone. If something has changed, a morning blood test answers more than a year of gummies, and erection problems are worth a doctor’s attention rather than a purchase.
What actually helps, in order
Every supplement page in this category implies the same hierarchy: the product first, everything else as a footnote. The real hierarchy is the other way round, and it is not close.
This is not a lecture about doing things the hard way. It is about effect sizes. A week of five-hour nights measurably lowers testosterone in healthy young men. Losing meaningful weight raises it. No herb in a men’s gummy has an effect anywhere near either.
| Rank | What | How much it matters |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Sleep, properly and consistently | Large, fast, and free |
| 2 | Resistance training you keep doing | Large, over months |
| 3 | Getting body fat into a normal range | Large, and it compounds with the first two |
| 4 | Treating what is underneath: blood pressure, blood sugar, depression, sleep apnoea | Large, and commonly missed |
| 5 | Reviewing medicines with a doctor | Sometimes decisive, and almost never considered |
| 6 | Alcohol, honestly counted | Moderate |
| 7 | Correcting a real deficiency a blood test found | Real, and only if you are actually deficient |
| 8 | A herbal supplement at a studied dose | Small at best |
| 9 | A botanical at a tenth of its studied dose | Nothing. That is five of this product’s seven |
Sleep, first
Testosterone is released largely during sleep, and the effect of losing it is not subtle. Studies restricting healthy young men to about five hours a night for a week have measured falls in daytime testosterone of roughly 10 to 15 per cent — the kind of change that would take fifteen years of normal ageing.
That is the single most useful paragraph on this website. If you are sleeping badly and buying a gummy, you are treating the wrong variable, and the right one is free.
A fixed wake time
Even at weekends. It anchors everything else and it is the least fashionable advice in existence.
Light in the morning
Ten minutes outside does more for a sleep schedule than most apps.
Alcohol is a sleep drug that stops working
It gets you under faster and wrecks the second half of the night.
Snoring that wakes you is not normal
Sleep apnoea is common, treatable and strongly linked to low testosterone. It needs a proper test.
Training and body fat
Resistance training raises testosterone acutely and, more usefully, builds the muscle that improves everything else. The programme matters far less than whether you do it in eighteen weeks’ time.
Body fat matters through a specific mechanism worth understanding: fat tissue contains aromatase, the enzyme that converts testosterone to oestradiol. More fat means more conversion, which is one reason weight loss raises testosterone in men who are carrying extra, and why no supplement competes with it.
Lift two to four times a week
Compound movements first: squat, hinge, push, pull.
Progress something
Reps, weight or sets. Progress you cannot see is hard to keep.
Eat enough protein
Roughly 1.6 g per kg of body weight a day is the usual target.
Walk
The least glamorous fat-loss tool and the one people actually sustain.
Give it three months
This is the timescale that everything in this section works on.
The blood tests worth asking for
If something has genuinely changed, a blood test answers more in a week than a year of supplements. Ask for a morning sample, because testosterone peaks early and a mid-afternoon reading will mislead everyone.
| Test | Why |
|---|---|
| Total and free testosterone (morning) | The actual question, measured properly |
| LH and FSH | Separates a testicular cause from a pituitary one |
| Prolactin | A raised level has specific causes worth finding |
| Full blood count and ferritin | Anaemia and low iron cause exactly the symptoms people blame on testosterone |
| Thyroid function | Same reason |
| HbA1c and lipids | Blood sugar and vascular health, both central to erections |
| Vitamin D | Common, easy to correct, and one of the few supplement answers a blood test can actually justify |
Causes people miss
- Sleep apnoea, which is common in men over 40 and strongly linked to low testosterone.
- Medicines: some blood-pressure drugs, antidepressants, finasteride and opioids all affect libido or erections.
- Depression, which flattens libido before it flattens anything else.
- Alcohol, in quantities most people describe as normal.
- Undiagnosed diabetes or prediabetes.
- Relationship or stress factors, which are not a supplement problem and are the commonest cause of all.
Where supplements fit
At the edges, honestly. Correcting a deficiency a blood test found is worth doing. Of the herbs, tongkat ali and ashwagandha have the most developed evidence, and Jellyblue carries tongkat ali at 200 mg — inside the range trials use (Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, “Tongkat Ali / Eurycoma longifolia (About Herbs)”). That is a real ingredient at a real amount, from a small evidence base. Ashwagandha at 300–600 mg a day is worth buying as a single-ingredient product if that is the effect you want (National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, “Ashwagandha”); this gummy has 100 mg.
Erection problems in particular deserve a doctor rather than a gummy, because they are often the earliest visible sign of a vascular problem and because the treatable causes are common and mundane (National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, “Erectile Dysfunction”).

More answers on the full FAQ page.
Is Jellyblue a testosterone booster?
The label does not say so. It claims “male vitality support”, “maximum strength” and “daily energy support”, each with an asterisk pointing at the standard FDA disclaimer. Nothing on the panel is a hormone.
Does Jellyblue treat erectile dysfunction?
No. It is a dietary supplement and the standard disclaimer applies: it is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Persistent erection problems have medical causes worth investigating, and a doctor is the right first step.
How long does Jellyblue take to work?
No timeline is published or promised. Tongkat ali trials usually run four to twelve weeks, so if anything here does something, that is the timescale to judge it on — and the six other ingredients are below the amounts research used.
