How Does Jellyblue Work? The Role of Each Active
Jellyblue relies mainly on tongkat ali, given at 200 mg, which sits inside the 200 to 400 mg range used in trials.
Six more actives with printed amounts round out the gummy: ashwagandha, maca, horny goat weed, grape seed, L-arginine and beet root.

The idea behind the formula
Jellyblue is built the way most men’s vitality products are built: an adaptogenic herb with the best evidence, an amino acid with a blood-flow mechanism, a nitrate source, and three or four botanicals that appear in almost every product in this category.
What makes this one different is that you can check it. Every amount is printed, so the question “does the formula match the research?” has an answer rather than a shrug.
| Group | Ingredient | Amount here | Research uses | Can it do anything at that amount? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Adaptogen | Tongkat ali | 200 mg | 200–400 mg | Plausibly, yes — this is the studied range |
| Adaptogen | Ashwagandha | 100 mg | 300–600 mg | Unlikely. A third of the lowest tested dose |
| Amino acid | L-arginine HCl | 50 mg | 3,000–6,000 mg | No. Roughly a hundredth |
| Nitrate source | Beet root | 50 mg | Grams of juice or concentrate | No |
| Botanical | Maca root | 100 mg | 1,500–3,000 mg | No |
| Botanical | Horny goat weed | 100 mg | Hundreds of mg, standardised | Unlikely, and unstandardised |
| Botanical | Grape seed | 50 mg | 100–300 mg, standardised | Unlikely, and unstandardised |
Taking the one real dose seriously
It would be lazy to dismiss the whole product when one ingredient is genuinely dosed, so here is the case for that ingredient, made as well as it can be made.
Tongkat ali. Eurycoma longifolia has been studied for stress hormones, testosterone markers, mood and exercise performance, usually at 200 to 400 mg a day of a standardised water extract for four to twelve weeks. Several small randomised trials have reported changes in cortisol-to-testosterone ratios and in self-reported wellbeing. At 200 mg this label is inside that range (Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, “Tongkat Ali / Eurycoma longifolia (About Herbs)”).
This is the first amount on any of these labels that lands inside a studied range rather than below it. It sits at the bottom of that range, and the label does not say whether the extract is standardised — but 200 mg is a number a researcher would recognise.
And here is the case against taking that too far. The trials are small, short and mostly from a single research tradition. Tongkat ali extracts vary enormously in strength, and this label prints no standardisation, no extract ratio and no plant part — so “200 mg” tells you the weight of the powder, not how much of the active fraction it contains. A product using a weak extract can print exactly the same number.
That is the honest position: the right amount of an unspecified material, from a small evidence base. It is a better position than any other product this desk has reviewed, and it is not a strong one.
And the six that are along for the ride
Maca, ashwagandha, horny goat weed, L-arginine, beet root and grape seed are the names the category is built on. Here is where each one stands, and what this label contains.
| Ingredient | What reviewed sources say | Studied dose | Here |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ashwagandha | Reasonable evidence for stress and sleep (National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, “Ashwagandha”) | 300–600 mg a day | 100 mg |
| Maca | Not enough evidence to know whether it helps any condition (National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, “Maca”) | 1.5–3 g a day | 100 mg |
| Horny goat weed | Limited human evidence; species and icariin content matter (Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, “Epimedium / Horny Goat Weed (About Herbs)”) | Hundreds of mg | 100 mg |
| L-arginine | Real vascular effects at gram doses (Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, “Arginine (About Herbs)”) | 3–6 g a day | 50 mg |
| Beet root | Solid nitrate physiology, studied as juice (NIH Office of Dietary Supplements, “Dietary Supplements for Exercise and Athletic Performance”) | ~400 mg of nitrate | 50 mg of extract |
| Grape seed | Studied for vascular function, standardised (Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, “Grape Seed (About Herbs)”) | 100–300 mg a day | 50 mg |
Two of those — ashwagandha and grape seed — are within a factor of six of a studied amount, which is close enough that a stronger extract could partly close the gap. The other four are not close, and no reading of the evidence puts 50 mg of L-arginine anywhere near three grams.
What actually moves male vitality
Moves the needle
- Sleep. Testosterone is made largely during it, and a week of short nights measurably lowers it
- Resistance training, consistently
- Getting body fat into a normal range
- Correcting an actual deficiency, once a blood test has found one
- Treating the conditions underneath: blood pressure, blood sugar, depression, sleep apnoea
- Reviewing medicines with a doctor, since several affect libido and erections
Does not
- Six botanicals at token amounts
- Any supplement, for a diagnosed hormone problem
- Ignoring a symptom that is new or getting worse
- Buying something instead of booking an appointment

More answers on the full FAQ page.
Which amounts are real doses?
One. Tongkat ali at 200 mg sits inside the 200–400 mg range trials of a standardised extract usually use. The other six are below their studied ranges — ashwagandha and grape seed by a factor of three to six, maca and L-arginine by far more.
How much ashwagandha is in it?
100 mg. Trials on stress, sleep and exercise generally use 300 to 600 mg a day of root extract, so this is a third to a sixth of a studied dose. No standardisation for withanolides is printed.
How long does Jellyblue take to work?
No timeline is published or promised. Tongkat ali trials usually run four to twelve weeks, so if anything here does something, that is the timescale to judge it on — and the six other ingredients are below the amounts research used.
Is tongkat ali safe?
It is generally well tolerated in the trials that have been run, which are mostly small and short. MSK notes it should be avoided in people with hormone-sensitive conditions and that quality varies widely between products.
